Like you, we bought the 1D because we had two weddings and a family reunion to shoot, so we thought it’d be good to have two cameras. I really love the 1D! There’s no way I could afford a new one (they’re, like, $5,000 or something?), so this old, used 1D has been a great alternative. There’s something about it that really makes portraits turn out just right. Honestly, I haven’t used it to its full capacity yet since the dang battery is always dead, but I don’t think it’d be a very reliable camera for shooting a wedding due to the battery and pretty small resolution—just good as a back-up or for a second shooter. However, our 5D is amazing too. We got it refurbished when the Mark 2 just came out, so the 5D price dropped. It’s crazy to think that we spent [way] less than half of what a new 1D would cost, but they’re definitely comparable. So for normal people who don’t have $5,000 to drop, the 5D is awesome and our old 1D is a great toy if we plan ahead. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in your 5D! Can’t wait to see the pics!
